Hello, my friends,
Today the question is, “Whose Program Are You Running?”
What programs are you running? Are you running other peoples’ programs, or are you running your own?
If you are like most people, you are running the programs that other people have programed into your mind…people you were around as a child, people you’re around today – advertisers and whatnot.
You know we are creatures of habit, do you not?
If you have seen this exercise before, just humor me. Cross your arms in front of you and then make note of which arm is on top in the center. In my case, my right arm is on top of my left arm. Now unfold your arms. And do it again the other way.
To most people, it feels really uncomfortable and very awkward. Why? Because you didn’t do it in the habitual, subconscious way. You did it in a very deliberate way because I asked you to.
This is just one admittedly silly example of how you run programs. Have you ever driven from point A to point B unintentionally? Have you ever driven to work, the grocery store, or school without even thinking about it, and then wondered, “How did I get here?”
Because you have these routines in your heart or in your brain, they just automatically run.
The question is, are you going to take control of your life, or are you going to allow other people to control your life? It’s all about you studying human nature, and more important than anything, your own human nature.
You will not outperform your own self-image. It’s not truly your potential that you will live up to, but your own perception – your own estimate of your potential. You’ll never outperform that self-image.
If you want to outperform your current limits, you must grow your self-image. That means you have to reprogram yourself very, very deliberately. It is all about daily affirmations, each and every day, and in many cases, multiple times a day.
These are affirmative statements about who you are, what you’re all about, how you’re going to show up in the world, how are you going to relate to other people such as your family, friends, and loved ones.
Ask yourself these questions:
- What gifts have you been given?
- How are you going to present yourself?
- What kind of energy, enthusiasm, passion, and other leadership traits are you going to show up with?
- What duties do you put on deliberately and own?
It really is armor against the self-limiting messages we are bombarded with. I’ve had people tell me, “Well, Ed, you’re talking about programming yourself. Isn’t this brainwashing?”
Yes, you can look at it that way. Let’s accept for the sake of argument that it is brainwashing.
Who do you want washing your brain? Do you want advertisers, politicians, and the TV news anchor washing your brain? Or do you want to wash your own brain?
To this I say, “Give me…me.”
I’ll wash my brain the way I want it to be brainwashed and not the way other people would choose to do it.
I am going to use daily affirmations in order to protect myself from the onslaught of negative messages that don’t fit where I want to go in life.
And I suggest you do the same. It will change your perception, and ultimately your outcome.
And just to show you that I practice what I recommend to others, below is a version of my Daily Affirmations, which I share in the Ascend on Demand program. How about writing YOUR affirmations TODAY?
